St. Cyril and Methodius Evangelical Lutheran Parish is a small, 3-year old congregation affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria (ELCI), a body of more than 19,000 members in 42 congregations in Russia. The ELCI is named for an area with a large population of Ingrian Finns in the St. Petersburg region of eastern Russia bordering Estonia and the Gulf of Finland.
The ELCI has been in an altar and pulpit fellowship with The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS) since July, 1998. Since that time, LCMS World Mission has worked closely with the ELCI through the undertaking of many projects, from obtaining basic Christian teaching resource materials to social outreach ministries.
A unique bridge between our two Lutheran congregations, already joined in a common profession of Christian faith, exists upon a trans-global fellowship of spiritual support and cultural awareness. Through regular communication exchanges, we hope to capitalize upon each other's similarities, as well as learn from each other's differences. The individual evangelical arms of both of our congregations are now longer and stronger under a common mission: the spreading of the Good News of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
